Mentor join Transaid in Tanzania to deliver forklift training

4th September 2014

Mentor are supporting the Transaid Professional Driver Training Project by seconding a professional volunteer to deliver two weeks of fork lift truck training in Tanzania.

International development charity, Transaid, works to build transport skills and knowledge in countries across Africa. In Tanzania, few people receive formal driver training with most learning from others, who have often had no training themselves. As a result, bad driving habits accumulate.

Instructor training

Via Transaid, several UK companies have sent volunteers to Tanzania to develop the skills of instructors at Tanzania’s National Institute of Transport training centre, and Mentor Field Training Assessor, Melvin England, will be delivering fork lift training there this September. The instructors can then use these skills and pass on their knowledge when training their delegates, with the aim to improve driver competence, road safety and the efficient use of vehicles - ultimately making life safer, both for those operating vehicles and those around them.
